KALAMAZOO, Mich.— A 21-year-old man is in custody after resisting arrest and assaulting Kalamazoo Public Safety officers Friday night.

Officers say they responded to a call around 8pm at the 500 block of Ada Street on a report of man with a gun hidden in the waistband of his pants.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the man matching the description and tried to detain him. That’s when a struggle began.

A taser was then used to neutralize the suspect.  Once the man was handcuffed he spit in the officer’s face.

Officers say they found a .22 caliber handgun when they searched the suspect.  They say a file check of the handgun reveals that is was reported stolen from the Kalamazoo Township Police Department.

The suspect was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of firearm during the commission of a felony, and attempting to disarm a police officer.
