11-year-old environmental activist recruits other kids to help pick up litter

KENT COUNTY, Mich. --  Friday is Earth Day, but one Kent County fifth grader is dedicated to helping the environment year round.

Brady Blaquiere, 11, picks up trash to help protect Mother Nature, and he's gotten hundreds of other kids to join the cause through his online home school program Connections Academy.

Blaquiere's mom Kat says it was Connections Academy that inspired his environmental efforts in the first place.  He's known as the "Dime Dasher," since he picks up a lot of pop cans and bottles to return.

“He’s quite the inspirational little kid. Anything he can do to bring his friends around to do something that he’s into, he’s definitely into that. So, I kind of got him into the can hunting thing because it’s something my mom did with us when we were kids,” Kat Blaquiere said.
