GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A Rockford boy returned to West Michigan Wednesday after suffering a serious medical issue while in Florida.
Chandyn Thompson, 10, suffered a 'brain bleed' while on vacation with his family.
He is in critical condition and needed to be taken right away to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. Family and the community raised more than $50,000 to get Chandyn on the speedy flight from Tampa to Grand Rapids, but a Chicago company, AeroCare, supplied the flight after it was unclear if insurance would pay for it. The remaining donations will go to Chandyn's continued care.
Chandyn's plane was met by his father, a medical team and some friends from school. Chandyn still has a long recovery ahead of him and his parents don't know a timeline yet for recovery.
Chandyn's parents say they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of their community.
