Student driver hits, kills school superintendent out jogging

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Police say a New Jersey school superintendent out jogging was struck and killed by a car driven by a student in his district.

Robbinsville Superintendent Steven Mayer was hit Tuesday near his home and the high school. The dog also was killed.

No tickets or charges have been filed against the student.

All Robbinsville schools are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Grief counseling is available to students and the community. A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Tuesday night.

Mayer was the married father of three children.

The district has three schools and 2,858 students.
