COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. -- Derek Hill drove in two runs and finished a home run short of the cycle, but the West Michigan Whitecaps couldn't avoid being swept by Lake County in a 5-4 loss at Fifth Third Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon. The Whitecaps are still winless at home in 2016, falling to 0-4.
"That game was ours," manager Andrew Graham said after the game. "We gave that game to them -- and later in the game, we threw a ball away at third base and a run scored. If we squash those little mistakes and mishaps that we've been making, we have a W -- so we need to tighten some things up defensively and continue to work."
The Whitecaps (2-4) start a four-game road series with Dayton (1-6) on Thursday.
