WASHINGTON TWP., Mich. – A Macomb County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Tuesday after his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver.

The crash happened about 7:15pm while the deputy was working a scene of another crash on M-53.

The deputy had his vehicle on the shoulder of the road when a 37-year-old woman from Warren in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche hit the side of the patrol car.  The deputy was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The woman was arrested for suspected drunk driving.  A 12-year-old child was also in the Avalanche with the woman.  Neither were hurt.

The woman is being charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Child Endangerment and Possession of Marijuana.

The deputy was released from the hospital late Tuesday night.
