(AP) — Sebastien Bellin is the former professional basketball player whose image lying prone and bleeding on the airport floor is one of the most enduring pictures from the Belgium attacks.
But as the 37-year-old resident of Battle Creek, Michigan recovers from his wounds in a Belgian hospital, Bellin looks back on the picture with gratitude. It shows him how close he was to death in the March 22 bombings.
Bellin is a former member of the Belgian national team who also played at Oakland University in Michigan. He says it’s almost as if everyone around the world who saw the photo was pulling for him.
He works for a sports video company and had been in Belgium on business. He was on his way home on the day of the attack.
