New HopCat coming to Kalamazoo

Posted

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Good news for craft beer lovers in Kalamazoo. BarFly Ventures on Thursday announced plans to open a new HopCat restaurant and craft beer bar in Kalamazoo.

It will be the fifth HopCat location in Michigan, and plans call for 100 craft beers on tap starting this fall. The restaurant will be at 427 E. Michigan Avenue, which is known as the Depot building, an old historic train depot. BarFly has signed a lease for 7,942 square feet at the location.

BarFly Ventures founder and CEO Mark Sellers was quick to point out the rich history of craft brewing in the Kalamazoo area. “Kalamazoo is one of the best cities in America for craft beer thanks to the legendary Larry Bell and the entrepreneurial spirit of the city’s brewing community,” says Sellers.

Plans for the Kalamazoo location call for HopCat to invest about $2 million to renovate a portion of the Depot building, including a large multi-season outdoor seating area. The restaurant will be able to seat approximately 300 people.

This will be the eleventh HopCat location in the U.S.

HopCat has already begun the search to hire a management team for the location, and more than 100 new jobs are expected in total. Resumes should be submitted via email.
