MSP: Robbery suspect shoots, kills self following police chase

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — A suspect in an armed robbery is dead after shooting himself following a chase with police on Saturday, according to Michigan State Police.

Lt. Chuck Christensen with MSP confirms to FOX 17 two male suspects were involved in a brief chase with police after an armed robbery at the Clark gas station in Martin around 3:45 Saturday afternoon.

The driver, in his mid-30s, was shot.

An officer with the Allegan County Sheriff's Office fired a round, but preliminary findings indicate the the gunshot was self-inflicted, according to Christensen.

The driver died from his injures, the passenger was uninjured and arrested.

No one was hurt during the robbery. The suspects got away with some cash that was later found in their vehicle, police said.

The car the two suspects were driving and crashed near the area of 10th Street and 129th Ave., just south of Wayland.

Michigan State Police is handling the investigation at the request of the Allegan County Sheriff's Office.
