GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Chick-Fil-A is one step closer to setting up shop in West Michigan.

The Gaines Township Planning Commission approved plans for West Michigan’s first Chick-Fil-A located at 1545 Edgeknoll Dr. near M-6 and Kalamazoo Avenue, Thursday night.

Representatives from the restaurant chain were not in attendance but their design firm, Progressive Architectural Design and Engineering said the Gaines Township location will be the first of many in the Grand Rapids area. This statement comes after the company put the proposed Holland Township Chick-Fil-A on hold.

Chairman of the Planning Commission, Rob Deward, said their decision came after the architectural company proposed plans to deal with traffic concerns at the already busy intersection.

“They studied the volume of traffic and they also have statistical analysis that they can use from other comparable restaurants,” said Deward. “Just by tweaking the light at the left hand turn, it’s going to resolve most of the concerns that were addressed.”

The Gaines Township Board of Commissioners will make a final vote on May 9th.
