GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The trial of a former Grand Rapids Police Officer, accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, is underway.
Ryan Bruggink is on trial on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and home invasion. Bruggink is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend at her Wyoming home last November.
Tuesday morning, after the sides presented their opening statements, the victim was the first witness called to the stand.
The crime allegedly happened in November of 2014 and Bruggink was charged in January 2015. The preliminary hearing was in March of 2015.
Bruggink was a GRPD officer at the time of the alleged incident and he was suspended on Dec. 1, 2014. He resigned one day later.
