COLORADO – A man accused of killing two people in Berrien County and kidnapping two girls and taking them to Colorado will be heading back to Michigan.
A Colorado judge ordered Alex Perez to return to Michigan to face charges of murder and the kidnapping of his biological daughters, Nova and Luna Perez, 4, in January.
Renee Mitchell, 27, who is the mother of the two children, and her father, John Mitchell, 67 were both found dead in a home on M-63 on Coloma. An Amber Alert was issued for the two girls who were discovered missing after family members found the crime scene. The girls were found safe a day later in Colorado with Perez, who was also taken into custody.
Perez had fought extradition back to Michigan, but a judge Monday ordered him back to Berrien County. His arrival date back in Michigan is not yet known.
