GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- On Friday, Kevin Sikkema was laid to rest after losing a courageous battle with cancer.

The 35-year-old family man and longtime firefighter was remembered at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville.

Kevin's sister Jill passed along supporting words to his children.

"Your dad never stopped smiling, fighting and never gave up hope," said Jill. "He never lost faith in what God was doing."

Rob Holland is the pastor of Lifeline Church and spoke of unity and strength during the service.

"This community and fire department will come around this family in the years to come, we are going to be strong, 'Sikkema Strong,'" said Holland.

Kevin served the Georgetown and Blendon Township Fire Department. He leaves behind his wife and three children.
