GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Two people have died following a crash between a motorcycle and semi truck in downtown Grand Rapids Monday night.
The crash happened around 10:50 p.m. at Pearl Street near Mount Vernon Avenue.
Police said a semi was heading south on Mount Vernon through a green light when at least two motorcycles heading west on Pearl went through the red light. One motorcycle managed to avoid a collision, but the second crashed into the side of the truck.
Aaron Lee, 25, of Walker and Brittany Simmons, 26, of Byron Center, were killed in the crash. Police said Lee was driving the motorcycle and Simmons was a passenger on it.
Police said the victims were not wearing helmets and that the semi driver was not injured in the crash.
Lee's funeral will be held on Friday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home at 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW.
His visitation will be held Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service starts at 11:00 a.m.
