COLOMA, Mich. – A Benton Harbor man has been charged with First Degree Murder and Child Abuse in the death of an eight month old child.
Brandon Tyler Beshires, 30, was charged Monday in the death of Carter Donovan. Donovan died Friday, February 19.
According to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office, Beshires was watching Donovan Friday morning while the child’s mother was at a doctor’s appointment in Coloma. Beshires was allegedly with the child for about 90 minutes. During this time, investigators allege that Beshires “caused the child’s head to be struck with such force as to cause the child’s death.”
When the mother returned, they both drove the child to Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say that Beshires is not the child’s father and it is not known his relationship with the mother.
Beshires was arraigned Monday and is being held on a $1 million bond.
