WEST MICHIGAN — Winds whipping across West Michigan on Friday caused widespread power outages and damage.
Consumers Energy reported a power outage of about 1,000 customers in the Muskegon area just around noon. Power was expected to be out there until about 3:00 p.m. A representative from Consumers told FOX 17 they had received reports of gusts up to 50 mph in the area.
The Dog 'n Suds restaurant in Muskegon posted serious damage to their facility from winds Friday afternoon. No one was reported injured.
28th Street turned into a traffic mess as several stop lights were without power during rush hour.
Approximately 5,000 customers in the Hastings area also lost power Friday afternoon. The Consumers Energy Outage mapshows other widely scattered outages. Other outages were reported in Ottawa and Van Buren counties too.
West Michigan was under a Wind Advisory until 10:00pm. Wind gusts of up to 50mph were expected around the area, with sustained winds averaging between 20 and 30 mph.
