KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a single car accident that killed a Rockford man Tuesday afternoon.
William Leroy Billings, 76, died after being involved with a crash that snapped a wooden power pole. The crash was reported at about 2:22 p.m. in the 5600 block of 10 Mile Road NE. According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, a 76-year-old Rockford man was driving westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, left the road and crashed into a pole.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Officials with the sheriff’s department say the crash knocked out power to nearby residents and crews are currently working to replace the damaged pole.
