Ex-Grand Valley State employee pleads in embezzlement case

ALLENDALE, Mich.  — A former office coordinator at Grand Valley State University whowas charged with embezzlement in connection with the theft of more than $76,000 from the school has pleaded guilty in the case.

Lynnea MacGeorge, 44, faces sentencing March 14 after entering the plea this month to one count of embezzlement by an agent or trustee of $20,000 or more. It’s punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

A count of embezzlement of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000 will be dropped.

According to a GVSU spokesperson, campus police began investigating this past June when money was reported missing.

MacGeorge resigned from the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management office on the Allendale campus the same month.  She had worked there since 2008.

The school says thefts took place between 2012 and 2015.
