GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man died Friday night after driving his car off the road and into a pole, Grand Rapids police say.

Police say that a 53-year-old man was rushed to the emergency room Friday night after a serious car accident that happened a little after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Plainfield Avenue and Marywood Drive NE. He was taken to St. Mary’s in critical condition but died before midnight.

Speed was ruled out as a cause of the crash, but it’s unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

The accident remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
