DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a man died after driving away from police following an attempted traffic stop, heading the wrong way down Interstate 75 and crashing into another vehicle in Detroit.

State police say the police from the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck were chasing the SUV about 2 a.m. Wednesday when the vehicle got on the freeway. Hamtramck police ended their pursuit, but the SUV kept going.

Police say the SUV collided with a vehicle occupied by two people. They were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The SUV driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. State police identify him as 25-year-old Tibias Kwame Anderson of the western Michigan community of Holland. They say a gun was found near him. The freeway was closed for several hours afterward.
