MONROE, Mich. (AP) – A woman and her two children were able to safely escape their apartment after an adjoining unit was set on fire and burned.

Monroe police say a 25-year-old person has been arrested in connection with the arson.

Fire officials were called to the duplex about 5 p.m. Friday and extinguished the blaze. A puppy in the burning apartment was killed.

The suspect was seen leaving the apartment before the fire was observed. That person was jailed and faces home invasion and other charges.
