SPRING LAKE, Mich. — Four Spring Lake teenagers are facing felony charges after being connected to a series of break-ins at Spring Lake Middle School, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies say that school officials began noticing money missing from their petty cash accounts earlier in January. After looking at security footage, they found that the school had been broken into eight times by four suspects, from a period between December 22, 2015 and January 12, 2016. Footage shows the four entering the school from a rear service door.
Close to $1,500 cash was stolen from the school. In addition, authorities also believe that the same suspects had broken into into Jeffers School on Leonard Street and stole an iPad.
The suspects were identified and search warrants were served. Sheriff’s deputies found stolen money and property at their homes, including the missing iPad.
All the suspects are students at Spring Lake Public Schools: two boys – one 16, one 17 – and two girls – one 16, one 15.
None of the teens are in custody at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
