ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 16-year-old is back in custody after attempting to rob a Van Buren County business using a BB gun.

Van Buren County deputies were called to the business in the 24000 block of Red Arrow Highway in Antwerp Township about 6:15pm Sunday evening. Deputies found the teen standing in the business holding a pistol.  The employee in the business had been able to get out of the building.

The teen surrendered peacefully after trying to hide the gun inside the building. After his arrest, investigators determined that the teen had been reported as missing after escaping from a juvenile detention center.  He had also allegedly broken into other buildings and had stolen several vehicles after his escape.  The vehicle that he was driving at the time of his arrest had been stolen from Battle Creek.  The gun he had been using was a BB gun.

The teen is from Custer, Michigan and had been on probation from Mason County.
