GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted suicide at the county jail Monday night.
A 20-year-old Grand Haven Township man was found unresponsive in his cell by other inmates. The inmates were out of their cells on free time when they found the man. The man had not come out of his cell for the activity and the preliminary investigation shows that man had tried to hang himself.
Medical personnel and deputies responded and the man was unresponsive, but still had signs of life. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The man had been an inmate since December 1, 2015 on property-related crimes.
The incident is still under investigation.
