GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two firefighters suffered injuries while responding to an overnight house fire in Grand Rapids early Tuesday morning.
It happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. at a home on Lexington Ave NW.
When the first firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were seen coming from the top of the house. The fire spread quickly through the rest of the home.
While the residents were able to make it out safely, two firefighters suffered injuries. One was hit by falling debris and knocked unconscious. Another suffered a leg injury. Both are expected to be okay, and were released from the hospital just hours after being admitted.
Crews then took a defensive approach to getting the fire under control. After all was said and done, firefighters were on the scene for more than four hours.
It appears the fire started in the attic area, but an official cause has not been determined.
