COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff is looking for the person responsible for robbing a liquor store and beating the clerk with a handgun.

The robbery happened just after 1:00am Monday at J&B Discount Liquor in the 5000 block of Gull Road.  Deputies responded and found the clerk behind the counter with injuries to his face and head.  He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies say that the suspect, a black male, about 5’8″ to 5’10” tall, with a medium to stock build, came into the store with the handgun, went right behind the counter and demanded money.  He then hit the clerk repeatedly in the head and face with the gun.  He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled to a nearby parking lot, where a K9 unit found vehicle tracks leaving the scene.

The suspect was wearing a heavy black winter coat with a hood.  His face was covered with a blue scarf and a light-colored pattern.

Anyone with information should call the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office at 269-383-8748 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
