GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport University has accepted an invitation to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to a Thursday night press release. Purdue University Calumet has also accepted an invitation to the GLIAC.
Both athletic departments are expected to begin GLIAC competition in the 2017-18 academic year as a provisional member of the NCAA. With the additions, the GLIAC will consist of 12 full-time members starting in 2017-18.
Davenport is currently a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Davenports athletic program features 20 NAIA programs, including a football team that will take the field in the fall of 2016 for its inaugural season.
