MOTTVILLE, Mich. — A woman is safe after a reported hostage situation in Mottville turned out to be a misunderstanding, according to Michigan State Police.

Police were called to a home in the area of Union Street and John Street at about 12 p.m. Thursday after the woman’s friends called police and said they thought her husband was holding  her hostage, according to state police.

Police say they made contact with the woman, who told them she wanted to leave the relationship with the man but was not being held hostage.

According to WBND, the woman is from another country and misspoke when she told her friends she couldn’t leave the home.
