CHARLOTTE, NC — Jakub Kindl scored seven seconds into a third period power play to break a 2-2 tie and helped give the Grand Rapids Griffins a 5-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday night.
Kindl — who cleared waivers from the Detroit Red Wings over the weekend — netted his 15th career goal for the Griffins in his 240th game with the franchise.
Martin Frk padded the Griffins’ lead with his 12th goal of the season just 83 seconds after Kindl’s go-ahead score and added his 13th on an empty-netter with less than a minute left to seal the win.
Anthony Mantha started things with his 10th goal of the year just 24 seconds into the game. Louis-Marc Aubry wrapped up the goal-scoring for the Griffins with his 6th of the year. Jared Coreau added 32 saves and Andy Miele had two assists.
Grand Rapids, who have won 20 of their last 23 games, play in Charlotte again on Wednesday.
