PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A passenger was seriously injured and had to be extricated after the car they were riding in crashed into a tree.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said it happened around 5:11 a.m. Saturday on 160th Avenue just south of Lakewood Boulevard.
Deputies said the driver, 24-year-old Andrew Hellenthal, was headed southbound on 160th Avenue, when he lost control of the car. It crossed into the opposite lane and struck a tree on the drivers side of the vehicle.
The passenger, Nicholas Cooper, 24, was unconscious and pinned inside the vehicle.
Deputies said they extricated Cooper and he was transported to a local hospital with a severe head injury.
His current condition is unknown.
Hellenthal was not injured.
Deputies said speed was a factor.
The crash is still under investigation.
