GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Griffins game was temporarily stopped after one of their players suffered a seizure during game time Friday night.
Forward Alden Hirschfeld was on the bench with 6:19 remaining in the second period. After being tended to by paramedics and Griffins medical and training staffs, he was taken from Van Andel Arena to a local hospital.
The game was temporarily suspended with the Griffins leading 4-1. The ice was resurfaced while both teams went back to their locker rooms. Play resumed with 6:19 remaining in the second period.
Hirschfeld has had at least one known seizure before.
As of 10:45 p.m., the Griffins report that Hirschfeld is doing well and resting with his family. The Griffins won the game 4-2.
