WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (AP) — Police say they’re reopening an investigation into a suspicious fire 15 years ago in western Michigan that killed a 53-year-old woman and her two dogs.

State police this week announced the update on the case, saying its investigators are working with the Newaygo County sheriff’s department and prosecutor’s office.

Geraldine Rauch died following the February 2, 2001 fire that destroyed the home she shared with her husband at 2975 North Baldwin Road in White Cloud.

In a statement, police noted that cold cases “are often solved because the passage of time allows witnesses and persons with information the courage to come forward.”
