GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Dematic, a manufacturing company on Grand Rapids' northeast side, announced Wednesday morning they are considering moving its operations to Mexico.

Members of the United Auto Workers were given their 60-day written notice this morning.  The company sent out a press release about the possible relocation as well.

The company says that the relocation could impact as many as 300 positions in fabrication, assembly, warehouse and plant administration.  Sales, engineering and customer service would not be affected.

According to the company, the Grand Rapids plant makes conveyor and sorting equipment. If Dematic does close the Grand Rapids facility, production would move to Monterrey, Mexico over six to nine months, starting this spring and concluding in September.

Dematic says that the move is being considered to remain cost competitive for their customers.
