MANLIUS TWP., Mich. - The teen killed in a sledding accident over the weekend was being pulled by an ATV driven by his older brother.

New details about the tragic accident were released Monday morning by the Allegan County Sheriff.

Mason Dykstra, 15, was being pulled on a sled by his 19-year-old brother Saturday morning on the family's private property, when the sled hit a tree.  Mason was conscious after the crash and complained of some pain, according to the sheriff's department.  He was treated by EMS and taken to Grand Rapids by helicopter, but during the flight his conditioned worsened and he was pronounced deceased upon his arrival at the hospital.

Deputies say that the brothers frequently sledded like this through their backyard in the past.

The incident is still under investigation.

Students and staff gathered Sunday at Hamilton High School to remember Dykstra.  Administrators told FOX 17 Dykstra was an outgoing student who was part of the Hamilton High School football team.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help for the Dykstra family to assist with medical costs.
