WEST MICHIGAN – If you thought this past December was dreary, you were right. Grand Rapids had only 16% of possible sunshine. That’s less than one and half hours per day. However, it is not a record.
The graphic above (National Weather Service) shows the percent of possible sunshine per month.
The (GREEN LINE) shows the average amount expected each month.
The (RED LINE) shows the record highest amount of sunshine for each month.
The (BLUE LINE) shows the record lowest amount of sunshine for each month.
The (BLACK NUMBERS) show the amount of sunshine we experienced this year.
Our average percent of possible sunshine quickly declines starting in late October through the end of the year, before quickly increasing by late January.
