KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Family, friends and the community are coming together to help a father who was severely burned saving his three year old son from a fire on Christmas Day.
Kerwin Barnum is being called a hero for saving his son. His boy is doing well, but Kerwin suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Kerwin went into the house a second time thinking his younger brother Kennon was inside, but Kennon was out that night with friends.
Kennon Barnum tells FOX 17 that he has been touched by his brother’s bravery and that the love from the community has been amazing.
Kerwin is being treated at Bronson Hospital for burns to his head and back. His condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
