BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. — Two people were taken to the hospital Saturday night after a serious head-on car collision in Niles Township.
Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies said it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on M-51 near Pucker Street. Investigators said a van driven by Scott Park, 43 of Niles, crossed the center line traveling south before hitting a northbound car driven by Chelsea LaPorte, 37 of Schoolcraft.
Deputies said both vehicles were extensively damaged, trapping both drivers inside.
Both LaPorte and Park were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend to be treated for their serious injuries.
They are both expected to survive. The accident is still under investigation but it appears that alcohol and speed were factors.
