HAGAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Michigan State Police confirm the body found on the shore of Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon is that of a man who went missing in November.

A preliminary investigation revealed the body to be Eike Krebs, 23, of St. Joseph. Krebs’ family has been contacted and notified of the discovery, police said.

Krebs was reported missing on Friday, Nov. 20 by relatives after not returning from dinner the night prior with his friend, Brandi Leigh Mannino.

While the discovery of Krebs’ body is tragic, it’s also a relief, relatives said.

“I’m really happy this happened because it brings closure, more closure to my family,” said Bjorn Krebs, Eike’s brother. “Especially for my dad, because he did have a lot of hope.”

Mannino’s body was found Nov. 20 on Tiscornia Park Beach by a passerby. The Coast Guard believed the two had been swept from Tiscornia Pier during an evening walk.

MSP said as recent as Dec. 17, the Berrien County Dive Team had spent the day searching the shore for Krebs.

Police were alerted to the discovery of Krebs’ body around 4:20 p.m. Saturday after a resident nearby called 911.

The Berrien County Medical Examiner’s office is expected to complete further tests to confirm the identity.
