West Michigan - After a very mild December and very little snow, things are going to change...at least for a while. An upper level system will drift over the Great Lakes the next few days with some colder air. The cold air will pass over the Great Lakes setting up some lake-effect snow for West Michigan.
Our Future Track model shows some light snow showers developing over the area for early Thursday. The snow showers will diminish later on Thursday with little or no accumulation for West Michigan. High temperatures on Thursday will reach the mid-upper 30s.
The lake-effect snow should increase by Friday with colder air aloft pushing into the state. Occasional snow showers are expected with some slick spots for the Friday evening commute. Temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
Snowfall amounts by Friday evening in most areas will be around an inch or less. West-southwest winds off the lake may produce accumulations of 1-3 inches from north of I-94 to north of I-96.
