PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A community is grieving after a crash took the lives of two high school students from the Battle Creek area.

The crash happened Thursday on East Avenue in Calhoun County.  Kaleigh Woodman, 16, and Sabrina Almarez, 17, both juniors at Battle Creek Pennfield High School, died.

Students and staff at Pennfield HS have been coming to grips with the news all day.

Counselors were on hand today to help with the grieving process.  Local businesses have also been stepping in with support, donating flowers and raising money to help support the families.

All athletic activities and the school's Christmas concert have been canceled for tonight.

Police say that they believe speed played a factor in the crash.

There is a candlelight vigil Sunday night at 6 p.m. at the high school.
