PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Two teenage girls were killed Thursday after a crash in Pennfield Township, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
The crash was reported just before 2:45 p.m. on East Avenue North near Morgan Road.
Pennfield Superintendent Tim Everett has identified the victims as Kaleigh Woodman and Sabrina Almaraz. They were juniors at Pennfield High School.
According to the sheriff's department, the car the teens were in left the road and struck a tree. The girls were pronounced dead at the scene.
East Avenue was closed between Morgan and St. Mary's Lake Road while officials investigated the crash.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Sunday night at Pennfield High School.
