PLAINFIELD TWP., Mich. — One suspect is in custody after police say he robbed a woman at gunpoint in the restroom of a Meijer store.
It happened Thursday at around 7:00 p.m. at the store located on Plainfield Avenue in Plainfield Township. Police say a 52-year-old woman was in the restroom when a suspect put a gun to the back of her head and demanded her wallet. She gave it to him and screamed for help as he ran off.
The victim's husband saw the suspect running out of the store and gave chase, but lost sight of him. Police brought in a K9 unit to attempt a track, but it lost the scent.
Fortunately, a Meijer employee had spotted the suspect in the store on prior occasions, and with the help of police, was able to come up with a positive identification. The 24-year-old man was located at an apartment nearby and taken into custody.
Deputies also recovered most of the victim's stolen property, as well as a BB gun believed to have been used in the robbery.
