Arrests made, sofa burned as fans celebrate Spartan victory

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Some Michigan State University students were arrested as fans celebrated the football team’s upset victory over Ohio State.

WILX-TV reports Sunday that a sofa was set afire Saturday during celebrations at an off-campus apartment complex that has been the site of past unruly behavior by Spartan fans.

Snowballs also were thrown. East Lansing police say the number of arrests will be made public Monday.

In recent years, fires have been set to couches or other furniture in the streets following some big football and basketball games.

A couch was burned following the football team’s win over Oregon on Sept. 12. A sofa also was tossed on a fire and more than a dozen people arrested in 2013 after Michigan State defeated the Buckeyes in the Big Ten championship.
