Child hit by car on way to SW Grand Rapids school

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A seven-year-old girl is recovering after being hit by a car on her way to school Wednesday morning.

Grand Rapids Police say the girl was trying to catch up with her brother who was crossing Buchanan Avenue SW near Burton Elementary School.  A car heading south on Buchanan went into the crosswalk and the driver’s side mirror struck the girl in the head.

The girl was alert and conscious at the scene. She was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was ticketed.
