Suspect in drive-by shooting, pursuit surrenders after officer fires at vehicle

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A suspect accused in a drive-by shooting is in custody after a short pursuit ended with a crash, and police firing a shot at the suspect.

It happened on Monday at around 2:09 a.m. in the area of High St. and Echo in Battle Creek.  Officers happened to witness what appeared to be a drive-by shooting, and attempted to pull the vehicle over.  The driver sped off and lead police on a short pursuit, until the suspect crashed into a utility pole.

The driver attempted to back up and continue driving, but an officer fired a shot at the vehicle, and the suspect surrendered.  It is believed that the drive-by was related to another shooting that occurred at a house party earlier in the area.

The suspect will face multiple charges upon arraignment.
