Coopersville man sentenced for mother’s murder

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Michael Roersma was sentenced Monday to between 20 and 40 years in prison for killing his mother, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The Coopersville man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and lying to policein October.  He admitted to killing 72-year-old Sharon Roersma in September 2014 and dumping her body in the Grand River.

A charge of first-degree murder was dropped in exchange for the plea.
