WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One person is dead after an overnight crash on I-96 that has continued to snarl traffic all morning long.
The crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. on eastbound I-96 near the 22 mile marker in Wright Township. Several chain reaction crashes have happened along the highway through the morning commute.
Units were originally called to the scene on a report of a car fire. After the fire was out, firefighters discovered a body inside. The identity of the occupant
has not been identified.
“The contents of the vehicle were a loss,” said Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Kevin Allman, commenting on the difficulty of identifying the victim and determining the cause of the crash.
The scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened just before 10 a.m.
