MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Former Detroit Pistons head coach Flip Saunders has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 60.
Saunders, who was the head coach and president of basketball operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves at the time of his death, announced in August that he had been diagnosed with a “very treatable” case of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was hospitalized in September after a setback in treatment — and the Timberwolves announced on Friday that Saunders would miss the entire 2015-2016 season.
Saunders spent three seasons in Detroit from 2005-2008, taking the Pistons to the Eastern Conference Finals in each campaign.
