GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Greenville man received six medals for his service in Vietnam Wednesday, including the Purple Heart.

U.S. Representative Justin Amash made the presentations to retired Army Specialist Samuel N. Andres at Kent County Veterans Services.

According to Amash’s office, Andres and his four-man squad was attacked while on night patrol south of Pleiku, on September 13, 1968. During the hour-long firefight, Andres was shot twice in the leg.

The U.S. Army approved the medals in May 2015.
