ELKHART, Ind. - Zach Anderson went looking for love online, logging in to the popular dating app, "Hot or Not". He connected with a girl just over the state line in Michigan.
They met up and had consensual sex. She told him she was 17. She wasn't. She was 14.
Zach found out about two weeks later.
The girl didn't tell her mother about the plan to hook up with Zach. Cops might never have learned of the encounter if it hadn't been for her mom's worry over an unrelated issue. The girl had a medical condition and had left without her medicine. Mom was concerned and called police to go look for her.
Zach pleaded guilty to Criminal Sexual Misconduct and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, five years of probation and had to register as a sex offender.
